The Studio

A quiet room for serious skincare.

Est. on Central Avenue

Essentials is a one-room beauty studio built around a single idea: that the most beautiful work happens when nothing is rushing. Light comes in from one window. The room is warm, white and quiet. Your treatment is the only thing happening.

Behind every service is a licensed esthetician who has trained in facial massage, brow mapping, lash isolation and clean waxing technique — and who treats every face as a different piece of marble. There is no menu of upsells. There is no conveyor of clients. There is just the work, done slowly, done well.

Whether you come for a forty-five minute brow tidy or a ninety-minute sculptural facial, the experience is the same: a cup of tea, a warm shoulder wrap, a real conversation about your skin, and a result you can see in the mirror before you leave the chair.

What to expect

Every visit is built around you.

No two faces are the same, and no two appointments should be either. We begin with a short consultation — skin history, sensitivities, the look you want — and from there build a treatment plan that fits the time you have and the result you want to leave with. Most services run between forty-five and ninety minutes; longer sessions are always available on request.

The Method

Calm. Clean. Considered.

Four steps, every visit. There is no other way we work — because consistency is what turns a single great appointment into a relationship with your skin.

— 01

Consult

We start with a real conversation. Skin history, current routine, sensitivities, the look you want. No forms, no upsell.

— 02

Map

For brows, lashes and facials, we map the work before we touch anything: measuring, marking, adjusting to your bone structure.

— 03

Perform

Single-room, single-esthetician, no rushing. Clean technique, professional products, and a pace that lets the work breathe.

— 04

Aftercare

You leave with a written aftercare plan and a clear answer to every question — including when to come back.

About the studio

A small studio with a large attention to detail.

Essentials was opened with a quiet conviction: that beauty work in a small town deserves the same precision, products and care you would find in a major city studio — without the noise of one. The room is private. The pace is unhurried. The result is the only thing that matters when you look in the mirror.

Every product used is professional-grade, cruelty-free, and chosen for how it behaves on real skin rather than how it photographs on a shelf. Tools are sterilized between every client. Linens are fresh for every appointment. The room is aired, swept and reset before you arrive.

"The best beauty work is the work you forget was done — until you catch yourself in a window."

— The Essentials philosophy
Frequently asked

Questions, honestly answered.

If you have a question we have not covered, the easiest way to get it answered is to text or call the studio directly. We respond to every message personally.

Do I need to know what I want before I book?

+

Not at all. Most clients arrive with a general idea — "I want my skin to look better" or "I would like fuller brows" — and we figure out the specifics together at the start of the appointment. The booking form asks for a service so we can reserve the right amount of time, but everything else is worked out in person.

What if I have sensitive skin or allergies?

+

Tell us at booking. We carry a carefully edited range of professional lines and can swap any product for one that suits reactive skin. A patch test is always available before a peel, brow tint or lash treatment if you have a history of sensitivities.

How far in advance should I book?

+

For facials and brow architecture, two to three weeks is typical. For bridal and event makeup, four to six weeks is safer. Last-minute openings do happen — the easiest way to find one is to text the studio.

What is your cancellation policy?

+

Life happens. We ask for 24 hours notice when you can give it, so another client can take the chair. Same-day cancellations are charged 50% of the service. No-shows are charged in full. We always extend grace for emergencies.

Do you do bridal?

+

Yes — bridal makeup, bridal party makeup, and trial runs. We strongly recommend a trial four to six weeks before the wedding, and we block the wedding-day slot the moment you confirm. Travel within the Dubuque area is included; further destinations can be arranged.

Is the studio private?

+

Yes. Essentials is a single-room studio, and there is only one client in the room at a time. You will not be passed between technicians, and you will not share a waiting area with anyone else.
